Rewq are a symbiot in wide use on the planet Jijo, often called "The Mask That Reveals". Rewq are thought to be engineered by the Buyur, but were not discovered until the time of the Great Peace.
Biology[]
Rewq live naturally in caves. They exchange nutrients between each other and form chains between mineral deposits to minimize movement. Users store their Rewqs in moss lined pouches when not in use to simulate the damp dark environment.
As a parasite they seek out large surface blood vessels to attach themselves to. The common way to wear one is let it attach to points on the sides of the face, its' body stretches into a thin transparent membrane over the eyes.
The Mask That Reveals[]
The wearer of a Rewq will see an aura around living creatures that reflects its' mood. The greatly helps communication between the races by compensating for differences in inflection and body language that often go unnoticed in members of different species.
The ability of a Rewq to interpret the attitude of others can be affected by several factors. For one they get better with practice, but overuse or prolonged exposure to strong emotions can weaken their health.
They also sense their users' intentions, and reading someone else who is also using a Rewq is much easier. This can be enhanced further if the Rewqs are allowed to rest together and exchange the nutrients each finds in biology of their users. This living mask reveals not only the intentions of others but also of the wearer.[1]
